WELCOME O'NEAL!
Anne shared with the professional background of our newest community member in her email last week, but we wanted an up close and personal acquaintance! Here are O'Neal's answers to our questions:
What is your new position at Roeper?
My position is the Director of Enrollment Management and Financial Aid. My office is located in the Hill House on the Lower School campus. I lead the outstanding admission team composed of Brittney Yuille, Kellie Bagne, and Jason McIntosh.
What were one or two highlights in your life?
One big highlight of my professional life is that I have worked in independent school enrollment for 17 years. In that time I have worked at large boarding schools, small boarding schools, international schools, and PK-12 day schools. I am also a product of an independent school therefore I embody the ideals we all espouse for these students and their families.
The other big highlight of my professional career is that I have a degree in sports marketing and have worked for two minor league baseball teams and the Portland Trailblazers of the NBA. I am keenly aware of the hospitality role we all play in the daily lives of these students and their families.
PS Please ask me one fun fact and I will be glad to share my mascot stories from being an intern for a minor league baseball team :)
What would you like to share about yourself, your family, and your birthplace?
My story includes living in 8 states and overseas in Switzerland. The most important part of my story is my family; my wife (Annie), my twins (daughter (Price) and son (Harry)), and our dog (Brooks). We are all so excited to be part of such a warm and welcoming community that is Roeper and we can’t wait to share our passion and energy with you all.
What do you like to do when you’re not working?
When not working, you will find me with my family enjoying all that the SE Michigan region has to offer. Since we have only been in the “mitten” since summer 2024, we have lots to explore.
Our favorites thus far are Belle Isle, the Science Center, DIA, Tigers’ games, any park or ice cream shop we can find. As my son Harry would say, we are excited to go to “the up north” as soon as we can!
What is a topic or skill that you love to teach or share and why do you like to?
Enrollment and independent education are so dependent on this idea of “unreasonable hospitality”. Each teacher, staff member, administrator etc strives for this each and every day they enter the community and I believe the enrollment office is the standard bearer for this. We hope to provide daily examples of this in everything we do for our families as they either engage with Roeper for the first time OR are in the process of returning to the community as current families.
What is it that appealed to you about Roeper when you first became acquainted with the school?
Roeper is relentlessly authentic in who they are and their mission and purpose. In today’s world, we NEED communities like this and to be part of one that helps guide, empower, and lead the next generation is an honor. Thank you for welcoming me and my family into your community.
